Earlier this season Frank Vaccaro, head coach of the Pipers swimming and diving team, mentioned he was looking forward to this season because of his roster.

“I’m excited for our sophomore and first-year class. They keep on getting more and more experience and want more,” he said.

The Pipers swimming and diving squad competed at the St. Thomas Invite last weekend.

At that meet, they competed against seven other schools including a few MIAC rivals like St. Thomas, Macalester and St. Catherine.

At their last meet, the Roger Alhman Invite at Macalester on Nov. 17, the men’s swimming and diving team finished in third and the women finished in sixth.

First-year men’s distance swimmer Tyler Stanchfield earned the men’s honor after finishing in second place in the 1000-Meter freestyle event.

Day one of the St. Thomas Invite was Friday, Dec. 7.

The women’s diving team came in fourth place in the 3-Meter dive.

They were two points shy of edging out the Tommies to place third.

First-year diver Dani Waskosky led the Pipers with 13 points.

After day one, the women were in sixth placed out of seven teams, while the men were in fourth out of six teams.

Day two started with the 200-Meter Medley Relay and ending with the 400-Meter Free Relay.

At the end of the Tommie Invitational, the men placed in fifth as the women placed in sixth.

The next meet for both teams will be Jan. 12 at St. Mary’s.

Both squads will look to improve and rebound from their performance last weekend.
