The Oracle was named fourth in General Excellence for student newspapers at four-year universities producing weekly editions at the Associated College Press Best of the Midwest journalism convention on February 15-17.

The award recognizes student newspapers that demonstrate consistent quality in reporting, photography, editorial content, and layout and design.

Oracle reporter and junior Emily Lazaer received an individual award in the Editorial/Commentary category for an editorial piece she wrote for the December 6, 2018.

Her article, “Further action required for hate incident,” critiqued Hamline administration’s response to a viral photo from November 12 depicting students making a Nazi salute. Read it online at www.hamlineoracle.com/5910/opinion/further-action-required-for-hate-incident.
