Seniors say farewell

The women’s hockey team hosts their last senior night at the Warner Coliseum.

Although it didn’t have a picture perfect ending, it was still a night to remember. The Hamline Women’s hockey team made their last ever home game appearance at the Lee and Rose Warner Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 22.

In the first period, both teams battled hard to maintain a 0-0 score. Going into the next period, Saint Mary’s netted two second period goals, one of those on the powerplay, to take a 2-0 lead. The Pipers wouldn’t give up without a fight, scoring a late third period goal to cut the score in half. With the final seconds winding down, they just couldn’t muster up enough to take the game to overtime and fell short with a final score of 2-1.

Parents and fans braved the frigid winter weather to help support and honor the seniors in their last home game as a Piper. Senior defenseman Megan Campbell had nothing but positive things to say about the squad this season.

“It would’ve been nice to come out with a win,” Campbell said. “But I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls to finish off the season with.”

As the four seniors hang up their jerseys and part ways with their hockey career, the Hamline women’s hockey team has no where to go but up. With sixteen underclassmen on the roster this season, the young team continues to improve and grow. Sophomore Jenny Magill believes the future is bright for the lady Pipers.

“Although we are going to miss our seniors very much, the potential that this young team has is going to help us in the future,” said Magill.

As the women begin their off-season training, the seniors will reminisce on all the memories they’ve captured throughout their four years here at Hamline. Although the group has had a turbulent four years, the seniors wouldn’t trade those days for the world. Senior captain Jess Hunt believes the ups and downs have made them such a tight knit group.

“The team has made every minute worth the hardships,” said Hunt. “To see the love from every person in the locker room just reaffirms the connections we have built over the season.”
