Athletes of the Week

Connor Knutson

Junior Basketball player Connor Knutson has made impressive impact on Hamline’s home court. Knutson grew up in Forest Lake, Minn. and played for his high school basketball team. During his senior year he was named captain and show leadership on and off the court.

In high school, Knutson received recognition as an All Conference Honorable Mention both sophomore and junior year, All Conference senior year, 1000 point scorer, and second in scoring of all time at Forest Lake High School.

Head Coach Jim Hayes is impressed with Knutson’s offensive ability a forward for the team.

No matter the situation, I know I can always turn to Connor for an offensive spark,” said Hayes.

His ability to uplift the team’s spirits has been proven time and time again.

Knutson lead his last three games with an average 7.3 points per game, and 9.7 minutes on average of play time. After experiencing a few minor loses, the team is coming back strong as seen in their 69-61 win against the University of St.Thomas on Saturday Dec. 2.

Riley Geisfeld

Hamline’s Women’s Basketball player and sophomore Reilly Geistfeld is a prime example of what it means to be a versatile athlete according to Head Coach Alex Focke.

For only being three games into her sophomore year, she has a ton of experience and we ask a lot of her from a leadership standpoint. She is a great leader for our program and continues to get better every time she takes the floor,” said Focke.

Geistfeld is from St. James, Minn. and attended Martin County West High School where she achieved a number of accomplishments both academic and athletic. A few of these include an All State Honorable Mention, Minnesota Girls Basketball All-Star Series Selection, as well as being a High Honors Graduate.

Geistfeld was the Piper’s top rebounder in all three games last week with ten rebounds per game which left her tied in the MIAC. Further proving not only is she able to score from just about everywhere on the court, but is a reliable team player.
