Party Like It’s 1999

The 90’s Preservation Society has got it going on.

Remember the 90’s? Spice Girls, Friends, Lisa Frank, floppy disks, Furbies, Shazaam? If not, the 90’s Preservation Society has you covered. They mix music and videos on the spot, creating the perfect storm to dance to. Every other Thursday they will be raising the roof at Byte with their awesome mix of 90’s R & B, rock, pop, funk and more. You may hear a little Mariah Carey, Smashing Pumpkins or some Stereolab.

Afraid you’ve heard it all, well don’t worry. Co-DJ Gretchen Doebler, DJ LowercaseG, assures, “We’ll play weird stuff,” referring to the lesser known artists of the 90’s.These two DJ’s are not afraid to get funky or throw out those non-dominant 90’s tunes. Gretchen mixes a lot of the pop and other music that gets you out on the dance floor and according to her, Co-DJ Mason Butler, DJ Hungry Tamagotchi, is a “music encyclopedia!” That means if you remember it, he probably has it in his massive archive!

Their events are meant to be “pure nostalgia,” as Mason Butler puts it, and “a large part of that is hearing music you recognize but didn’t realize you knew.” It really takes you back to simpler times, which their “main goal is to go deep into the nostalgia and go past the canon you might hear on 93X or 102.5-The Vibe,” says Gretchen.

Byte totally goes with their vibe. Their last event space, Club Jager, ended up in some tough situations and they bombed their shot at success but Byte is the perfect setting. They have board games to play, including Cards Against Humanity, and an N64 set up in the play area. The walls are covered in nerdy posters galore and the best part is that every other Thursday you get that nostalgic 90’s music and everything just flows together. The 90’s Preservation Society chose a prime spot to get down with their music.

If you’re looking for a great vibe or you just plan to get down and party, these events are for you! Byte isn’t the only place they party like it’s 1999 though, they also have a monthly jam at the Uptown VFW. Sounding a bit fancy? Don’t sweat it, the events at Byte are free, that means no cover.

Now don’t bring no scrubs to these dance parties. Just kidding. Totally bring them, because these events are all-inclusive! The 90’s preservation Society events bring out a wide range of people some have even gone the extra 90’s mile and are garbed in scrunchies and fanny packs. Literally everyone loves 90’s music, and if you think you don’t then you just haven’t heard it the way these two rad DJ’s are putting it together.

Come out and see them for yourselves! They’ll be back at Byte on October 5, if you can’t make it out this night, check out their Facebook page for upcoming events.
