The Blue Garden was alive and buzzing with the sounds of conversation and mellow acoustic music last Friday afternoon during MPIRG’s Earth Day celebration, Jams in the Garden.

The event was cooperatively organized by MPIRG, Hamline Environmental Action League, Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress and the Sustainability Department.

MPIRG Environmental Justice Task Force leaders Camille Warnacutt and Madison Wagner and Social Justice Task Force leaders Kayla Farhang and Wyatt Ehlke helped coordinate the event with the goal to create a friendly atmosphere conducive to open conversation about Earth Day and the issues facing the planet.

Local musician Emelia Smith arrived with guitar in hand to provide entertainment for those in attendence.

In addition to Jams in the Garden, MPIRG also partnered with other organizations  to coordinate the Carry Your Trash Challenge, Trash Audit and Midway Cleanup as parts of a week-long Earth Day celebration.
