The annual HUSC elections are back, but this time the pickings are slimmer—there’s only one pair of running mates.

Running unopposed in yet another Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress election is Sara Antony for President and her running mate, Paige Natzke for Vice President.

Antony and Natzke have been working together as a part of HUSC since their first year here at Hamline. They have tabled, conducted town halls and volunteered for other organizations as well. As first-years, the pair worked together with Lydia Hubert-Peterson to get water filtration stations put in Bush Memorial Library and Sorin Residence Hall COURTESY PAIGE NATZKE
as well as a water fountain in the Manor Residence Hall.

“I want to make the world a better place. Making Hamline a better place, and making Hamline students’ lives better seems like a good start,” Natzke said. “Through my relationships with administration, faculty, staff and students, I hope to best represent the needs of Hamline students.”

The polls opened this morning and will remain open through March 3. During this time Hamline students will be able to vote for their next Student Congress President and Vice President. Each student will receive an email from Student Activities with instructions to vote online. Those who choose to may vote in the Anderson Center instead. Free T-shirts will be given to anyone who votes this year.

In an email interview, Natzke explained that even though they have no competition, they have been taking the election extremely seriously, treating their campaign very professionally. The week before the election, Natzke and Antony participated in a debate as well as hosting a question and answer session.

“[I]t is very important to us that people know who we are and feel comfortable coming to us as resources,” Natzke said. “We also looked at campaigning as a way to tell people about HUSC and ask them what we can do for them if we would get elected.”

Not long after the votes are counted, the executive board job applications will be sent out. The elected presidential team will go through the applications and hiring processes for each of the seven executive board positions. If elected, Antony and Natzke have said that they will work to put together a qualified and diverse team, and that they encourage everyone to apply.
