Hamline’s Football program has been making many changes the past few months. The most notable of these changes are the additions to the team’s coaching staff.

After former head coach Chad Rogosheske recently left Hamline after being offered another coaching position, defensive coordinator Chip Taylor took on the role of head coach. Since that point, Taylor has had to make some very important decisions for the program. The newest of these changes was the addition of Hamline’s new offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski.

Zebrowski boasts quite the impressive resume as he has two Division III national championships under his belt, as well as having coached for multiple Division I schools including Northern Illinois and the University of Minnesota. These accomplishments are revered highly by coach Taylor and played a huge role in his choice to hire Zebrowski.

“Two things really jumped out to me about Coach Zebrowski during the hiring process. The biggest thing that jumped out was that he had Division III experience before. I thought that was a big piece to this thing as far as getting the right kind of people in here that understand how to get things done,” said Taylor. “The second thing is just that he is a very good football coach with an impressive track record.”

Taylor also discussed some of Zebrowski’s successes in his previous coaching positions.

“If you look at his time coaching at some of the smaller schools and even the mid-major schools, they won a lot of games,” said Taylor. “Like I said, he is a good football coach and he knows the lay of the land.”

It isn’t easy for any team to build a great coaching staff, especially when it involves coaches of Zebrowski’s caliber. So the real question is, how did Hamline manage to acquire a coach such as Zebrowski in the first place? The answer to this question involves multiple pieces. Obviously, it had to do with Taylor’s recruiting ability, but it seems that it also involved some dumb luck.
